Saturday night was our annual Christmas Dinner party where we have some friends over, drink a lot and eat a lot. Everyone started arriving around 6:30pm and by the time we sat down to dinner at 7:30, the group had gone through two and a half bottles of wine I had received from the wine clubs. We had two bottles open a red and a white and people loved both of them. It was an easy way o find some good tasting wine that everyone could enjoy. It also helped that the wine was accompanied by a new letter with suggestions and other tips and information about the wines themselves.
We cracked open a third bottle as dinner began and sat down to an excellent feast of pot roast, green beans, rice, gravy, squash and a veggie lasagna (gruntled is a veggie…) and proceeded to feast on roast beast until it was all gone. Its amazing how quickly a FIVE POUND RUMP ROAST can disappear. I cooked it following my father-in-law’s recipe. Friday night, I stuffed the roast with cloves of garlic and rubbed it down with Tony’s seasoning and then covered it in olive oil. Stuck that sucker in the fridge to marinate over night. Saturday afternoon, I put it in a large pot in the oven @ 400 for an hour, then knocked it down to 350 for the remaining time. The thing fell a part on your plate it was that good.
Next time I’m going to have to get a larger cut of meat so I have leftovers.
We had fruit, brownies and pumpkin cheese cake (thanks rach!) for desert and kept drinking and eating until about 1:30am and despite the rain, several of us ventured out in to the cold to enjoy a soak in the hot tub. Its amazing how long you can go when there aren’t any kids around to chase after. Once I get some of the photos uploaded, I’ll at least show how good the table looked before we sat down to destroy it. Hope you all have a merry christmas!

Thats a right! Its Blogday 2007! Blogs all over the world are celebrating by letting you know about 5 of their favorite or newly discovered haunts. I’m writing about a couple I’ve been visiting for a while and some I just found out about in the past couple of weeks. Some I like for the content (19incheswide) and some I like because of the design and layout (dearcrissy) and some I just like (laurigami, which is a ton of fun to say!).
Now, with out further ado…
- Jeff Robbins - Jeffro is a friend from several years. Jeff.robbins.ws is as he puts it his “blo…websi…homepa…heap”. Jeffro talks about a myriad of subjects (transformers, computer, programming, life, his kid…) in a light and airy way that is fun to read. Plus the theme is fairly cool. He has some good coding tips on there (and a good tip about keeping fluffy out of the way). Pop in and tell him hi for me.
- Whatever I Feel Like is Amy’s (not my Amy) blog. She writes about well, whatever she feels like. She has a dog named Grace, puts up with her job and loves to travel. Plus she’s fun to read…
- Dear Crissy - the blog of a self described “27-year-old artist, photographer, and writer from Ohio”. I was originally turned on to Dear Crissy because of the theme. Lame huh? The layout and design of her site is outstanding and it all flows together rather well (dontcha think?) However, as I looked over her blog more, I discovered that she’s Fun to Read as well.
- Laurigami is one I like simply because of the domain name. Its fun to say. Try it. Say it with me… Lau-ri-ga-mi. Isn’t that fun? The site sports a cool black and blue theme, which I happen to like (I prefer the black bg white text (foreground) as it seems easier to read) though she’s considering changing it. She generally posts some good shopping finds on her site (sales, items, prices) and her other sites are fun to read as well.
- 19 Inches Wide I assume (correctly I hope) that this referres to the size of his monitor…
I picked up 19 Inches from a link from a friend. Its a tech related blog, where Mouseclone posts about tech issues he’s encountered and stuff. While there is a bit of Microsoft stuff on the site, he’s not opposed to Linux as an alternative. If you like more techie stuff, 19 inches wide is a good site to keep an eye on.
Hope my five recomendations for blog day have pointed you in a new direction. Let me know what you think of them.
