Kville on Fox

Ok, so I caught the last part of the premiere this week of K-ville on Fox. In all, it looks like a good addition to their power line up of Dramas (Bones, House, 24, prison break). What I don’t know is if it will keep me tuning in like StandOff was starting to. The premise behind the show is two tough cops in New Orleans work to bring some sense of control and normalcy back to the city still struggling after Katrina.

We learn that one of them was abandoned by his last partner during the storm and is working to over come issues of trust and the other is an ex-army ranger (we learn at the end of the premiere that he was actually in a New orleans Prison during the storm and has decided to clean up his life) who has come back to help the city out. The action is good, the bad guys in the first episode was a rich white girl and her band of army thuggs. I only hope that its not a re-occuring theme to see the “white man” as the bad guy in every episode. That would be very disappointing. I’m going to try and tune in next week as well.

I’ll admit it, I’ve sat through Fargo. It was an ok movie, the cast was good, and yeah, they do say yeah, a lot. I didn’t realize it though, but apparently, the word yeah took up 1 minute 26 seconds from that movie. Don’t believe me?

If only life gave us all do overs. Ms. Teen SC was on the Today show today, talking about how stupid she looked and offering up a slew of excuses (first time on TV, nervous, etc…) on why she totally choked on that answer. They also gave her a chance to give a proper answer…

The Future of America?

Apparently, the Miss Teen USA pageant was held this past weekend. Some of the contestants were undoubtedly attractive but they were a few sandwhiches short of a picnic. Like Miss Teen South Carolina for instance…

If you want to read what she said (it hurts just as much to read it as it does to listen to it..):

“I personally believe the U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh…people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and…I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our…

The question she was trying to answer:

Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?

Now, in and of itself, that statistic is appalling. EVERY American should be able to locate the US on a map. After all, it does have a somewhat distinct shape. The bigger problem is her answer. She was most likely coached to work Iraq AND South Africa in her answer and she really just should have admitted that she was one of those who couldn’t find the US on a map… I just hope she doesn’t become a school teacher.

Worlds Funniest Commercials

TBS is at it again with their worlds funniest commercials and I have to say, if the United States wasn’t a nation of puckered asses, then we might come close to some of these. You’d never see a commercial like this for sunblock (though, it makes a really good point) or this one for mustard of all things.

Plus the TBS site has a cool rating feature where you can rate the ads and even a way to email your fave’s to your friends something thats pretty cool. The site is quick to load and designed rather well and works fast. The show itself will be airing on August 30th (I believe) with kevin nealon (SNL) as the host.

I haven’t been a big fan of Comedy Central lately (not a big mencia fan, and south park kind of got old a couple of years ago…) but I think they have a hit on their hands with American Body Shop. Its filmed like a reality tv show (which is great) in the style of American Hot Rod or American Chopper or any of the other shows like that. However, I think its a truer to life form of the show rather than the polished look we get at Boyds.

Rob is by far the best character on the show, you can see why from the clip. His delivery, poise and attitude just make the character work though the cast as a whole work well together. If you have time, you should check it out, Sundays at 10:30pm (east) on Comedy central.

Scary Movies frighten me!

I am not a fan of scary movies. Something about them always gives me goosebumps. My favorite horror flick at the moment is House on Haunted Hill (with Geoffrey Rush). We don’t tend to watch too many of them as we have young children and Amy is generally afraid of anything in the dark (she doesn’t like trees at night…) however, Halloween the movie might be one I have to go see.

Rob Zombie directs the latest in the Mike Myers saga in which Myers returns to his hometown after being locked in a mental institution for 17 years where as in House on Haunted Hill, they’re spending the night in a haunted mental institution… kind of a switch for once. This is the 9th movie in the Halloween series and it should be a good one if Zombie has anything to do with it. I’m going to bet that Rob will bring his usual twisted vision to the movie which will do nothing but excite fans of the Halloween franchise.

The cast is pretty good and the movie is looking to be fairly chilling as well. Take a look at the trailer:

Halloween the movie is definately one horror flick worth checking out!
