Using mobile exchange, it would sync with the exchange server and sync my calendar, contacts and email as they changed. It was small, and light and it had an awesome battery life (it lasted for over 30 hours, 26 of which were spent on a barge a mile out at sea…). But recently, I had the opportunity to upgrade to a Blackberry Curve and I did. Here’s how I feel about it.

The Curve is smaller and lighter than the e62, it has a camera on it and a trackball for navigating its interface. Its sleek, well designed and it has a ton of useful features (did you know that there was a version of google talk for the Blackberry??). The only issue I have with it is the lack of native exchange support. My email, contacts and calendar still sync, though i have to use the blackberry exchange services, which don’t exactly operate like MS Exchange Activesync. This and the lack of decent themes are the only down side to this phone so far.

The picture quality is quite good (I just need to stop shaking my hand…) and yea, it sends email ok. Battery life seems to be about normal, I get a little more if I log out of gtalk on it…. Its a nice, compact smart phone that works. Over all I’m happy with it, but I’ll give it another week or two before I decide if I’m going to stick with it or not.

Ok, so as I alluded to the other day, I have a new phone. The nokia 62 and so far I love it. The only down side is that unlike its European brother the e61, it does not have built in wifi (I have however, come up with a fix for that…). The e62 does everything I need it to. It syncs with my exchange server for flawless email, contact and calendar syncing, it has some awesome programs and its developer base is fairly good. I’ve found a free version of tetris to play on it and soon I’ll have zingles, a sudoku game to keep me occupied as well. I have oggplayer so I can play my mp3’s and my ogg’s and some other stuff. But the thing I like the most is the fact that someone ported putty over to it so I have ssh access to my linux boxes. HOW COOL IS THAT??

Plus the fact that nokia includes some cool software on it… I did have to “hack” it to remove the default cingular firmware, but once that was done everything else has been a snap!
