the Two Man Gentleman Band!

Yes, I’m a day late with my AmieStreet Music Wednesday post, but at least I’m here right? Today’s selection comes from an unlikely place when you hear the type of music this dynamic duo produces. The Two Man Gentleman Band hails from New York and brings a unique style of music to life with their instruments. You’ll notice their main stringed instrument is a banjo, but it’s played more like a guitar then the Earl Scruggs style of Bluegrass. On the Ghostbusters track below, you’ll also notice kazoos. Yes. Kazoos.

Their songs are fun and very light hearted. From the track Prime Numbers, which talks about his woman’s measurments, to I can Get Drunk and I can Sing Songs the whole collection is pretty fun to listen to. These two certainly aren’t going to hit it big as the next big group, but they will be around a while as their unique style of humor and music are hard to come by. Give their album a listen and see why they’re one of the fastest rising duos on Amie Streets Top 25!

ASMW – Contra by Vampire Weekend

Its funny, but these guys don’t really look like Vampires. In fact, if you had to place them in a category, Paul Simon would come to mind. The second cut on their new album Contra has a very Paul Simon feel to it. Its a fun light listen that anyone who likes that kind of alternative rock (not heavy) sound like Simon is known for (think Diamonds on the soles of her shoes) would definitely like this cut.

Another fun track on their latest album is Run. Its got a catchy beat that you’ll find yourself bobbing your head to whether or not you want to. Follow it up with Horchata and you have a pretty good album to listen to. Check out the track White Sky below and then head over to Amie Street for the rest.

ASMW – A day early, but not a dollar short!

Posted on : 22-12-2009 | By : mcangeli | In : ASMW, Amie Street

So I know, today’s Tuesday. However, I got this awesome email in my inbox from AmieStreet and I wanted to share the love. They’ve added a ton of classic albums from the past 20 years to the collection and you can get the ones you want for just $8 a piece (or buy the songs you want!).

For instance, if you want vintage FooFighters before they were the FooFighters, you need to check out Foo Fighters by the Foo Fighters.

Up next, is a treat from the original masters of Lyrics, Run-DMC. Yes, Run-DMC. I don’t post a lot of rap on here, because I don’t like it, but these guys are legends! Now you can have tracks like Hard Times, Sucker M.C.’s and more for ONLY $8!! Why wouldn’t you grab this one?

Last up today are the Perenial bad boys Jack Black and KG. I’m happy to say, I actually own this on CD, but Tenacious D by Tenacious D is a must have album for any Jack Black fans out there. Keep in mind, that while this album is only $8, it does have some explicit language on it, so choose your tracks wisely!

ASMW – Indie ROCKS! A benefit Album for Malaria No More

Posted on : 18-11-2009 | By : mcangeli | In : ASMW, Amie Street

IndieRocks Now cool is this? 14 artists have come together to release an album with some really good cuts on it (Bonfire Live in NY from Third Eye Blind) on the Indie Rocks! A Benefit Album For Malaria No More. The album itself is $10 and ALL proceedes go to help Malaria No More. So for every purchase, $10 goes to help end malaria deaths in Africa.

The donations help to distribute and educate families in Africa about mosquito nets, one of the easiest and cheapest ways to help fight the disease. But don’t buy the album strictly because its for a good cause (which it is) buy it for the kick ass cuts from groups like Peter Bjorn and John, The Grates, Third Eye Blind, Dirty Little Rabbits, the Walkmen and more.

Its awesome that for $10 you get 14 tracks that aren’t available anywhere else and you help stamp out Malaria. Isn’t it?

ASMW – Oh! Death!

This week’s ASMW post is another freebie (notice a trend here?) from Amie Street. This one is by Pearl and the Beard, a pretty cool folk group I discovered just this morning (because I saw the free download link).

One of the recs for this song called it sort of “Folk Gothic” and I’d have to agree. The vocals work well and the tune is haunting in a good way. One to add to the library. And you can’t beat the current price. Can you?

Party in my TUMMY!

Jack Black Rocks!

Jack Black Rocks!

Any parent who has made the mistake of watching TV during the day with their Toddler or youngster (as some of the elementary school age might like it) will know, today’s ASMW is a bit different. Yo Gabba Gabba is a growing kids show that has had guests like Elijah Wood, Jack Black and more on. They also sing about eating (I love Party in my Tummy), brushing teeth and more.

If you’re looking for a drug induced coma to slip your little one in to, look no further then the trippy colors and monsters of Yo Gabba Gabba.

As a bonus today, AmieStreet is giving away a couple of free songs, here’s one by El Perro Del Mar called Change of Heart. Its more then worth it.

ASMW – Hanuman

Posted on : 09-09-2009 | By : mcangeli | In : ASMW, Amie Street

Today’s Amie Street Music Wednesday post comes from a duo known simply as Rodrigo y Gabriela. Nice spanish infused guitar mixes with some awesome string work and simple percussion to form a nice up beat disc. From the awesome tone of Hanuman to the fun tune of 11:11 the entire collection from this duo is worth owning.

From the Sunday Times UK:

Much like Antonio Forcione, the Mexican flamenco-rock duo bring a new kind of athleticism to acoustic power chords. Melodically, they’re less subtle: many of their tunes establish a pulsating vamp and then settle for turning up the rhythm knob to the vaunted number 11. But the mercurial fingerwork is mesmerising, and rockers will enjoy the echoes of Hendrix on Buster Voodoo. Another axe duo, Strunz & Farah, briefly sit in, while the metal hero Alex Skolnick sets the room screaming on Atman, a number that blossoms magically out of Chac Mool. The Gipsy Kings-meet-Led Zep ethos will never appeal to the faint-hearted, but it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer energy

AMST? An early present from the black crowes!

Posted on : 01-09-2009 | By : mcangeli | In : ASMW, Amie Street

I know I usually post these on Wednesday (it is after all named Amie Street Music Wednesday) but this hit my inbox and I had to share.

The Black Crowes have released a NEW album and its available on Amie Street! You can currently grab this whole album for $8.45 (better be quick, that’s bound to rise as more people purchase the album) or just the tracks you want. Before the Frost… Until the Freeze is a pretty good album that follows in the Black Crowes previous footsteps of some good Rock and Roll. This is a definite must have for any BC Fan and at $0.42 a song you could include a song in the 5 holiday invitations you’re bound to send out this holiday season.
