Kid Songs

Well, not your normal Kid songs anyways. One of my perennial favorites, Barenaked Ladies decided that they were of the age where it would be appropriate for them to put out a kids album (as they almost all have kids). Instead of releasing old classics like their christmas album, they came up with their own songs for the childrens CD and boy is it unique.

From songs about ninjas to food parties to geese, there’s even a new ABC song that uses words like Czar and llamadamadingdong. Try teaching that to your four year old!

The only thing missing as far as I’m concerned is the rendition of “the other day” that they’ve been playing on XM kids (116), otherwise this album is a fun, light hearted take on childrens albums and right up any BNL fan’s alley.

Everybody Do Your Share!

5238dd240x180publicClean up, clean up, everybody do your share, clean up, clean up everybody everywhere! Or something like that. At least that’s what it sounds like to me as my 4yr old sings it in her sing song voice (I swear if ever a child was meant to be a princess at Disney World….). When it comes to doing my share of cleaning around the house, I tend to let it get to the point where I can’t stand it anymore before I lift a finger to do anything.

I mean, the dust on my night table must be thicker than the current issue of Paste Magazine before I’ll consider getting out the dust rag. Its not that I hate cleaning per Se (did I use that right?) its just that its not one of my favorite things to do when I could be doing something so much better like, checking my eyelids for holes, or watching the paint in the Garage peel from the odor of cat urine. I’m not lazy so much as slack.

Which is why the Amster and I tend to look for ways of making our cleaning easier and faster (has anyone seen the Scrubbing Bubbles Bath and shower cleaner thing??) If we can do the same amount of cleaning with out using as much energy, then hell, why not??

That’s where this baby comes in! The Dirt Devil AccuCharge Stick and Hand vac is pretty cool. Remember the old dustbusters your parents had in the 80s and 90s? They’d run for maybe five minutes and then the battery would die, or they’d get full and couldn’t take any more? Well, that’s a thing of the past.

The accucharge is an Energy Star rated cordless vac that can handle anything you throw at it, with less energy!! That’s right! NO more neighborhood brownouts because you need to clean up the kitty litter. This thing rocks and you can use it everywhere.

It won’t clean for you, but it will let you hand it to your 4 year old and say go at it kid. :D

Whats in a name?

You Like Names that Are Retro and Fashionable

You like names that are from the past but becoming modern again.
Names with a strong history are very appealing to you.

You’re a big believer in giving children very adult sounding names.
You’re not a fan of nicknames or newfangled spellings.

Some female names you might like: Audrey, Emma, Fiona, Georgia, Isabelle, Naomi, Rosemary, and Veronica

Some male names you might like: Brendan, Colin, Ethan, Jared, Kenneth, Martin, and Nathaniel

I could have told you that… I mean after all, we have Grace Elizabeth and Emma Rose.

wii What Fun!!

IMG00031

We’ve had the wii since last summer when I bought it second hand off a friend who found he wasn’t playing it enough to justify having it. I played it off and on again for a bit, and then I bought the wii fit. Since then, Amy and I have been playing several times a week (we like competing against each other) and have expanded our game gallery to include several games the WHOLE family can enjoy (Dogs, Disney Princess, Game Party) and have been staying up late many nights out of the week trying to best each other at Skill Ball (Ski ball), Shuffleboard or Darts.

An article on engadget recently about the latest wii update and the “hole” it patched piqued my curosity a bit about hacking the wii, but since this console was one the whole family enjoys (emma and grace like making mii’s) I figured I wouldn’t bother.

Until I came across this little gem. Granted, I still do not know if I really want to hack the wii and add the homebrew channel, but I do have Legend of Zelda (though pilotg2 is playing it right now…) and it might be fun to add more games to the box (like duck hunt!) I just don’t know if I really want to try it.

Has anyone out there hacked their wii yet? Was it successful??

Oh and if you shoot me your WII ID I’ll send mine and add you to my friends list….

A legend leaves…

They say bad things happen in threes. Well, lets hope the news from this past weekend is it for a while. First, Bo Diddley left, then Tim Russert and now, funny man George Carlin.

Whether or not you know it, you’ve been affected by Carlin in some way or form. From 14 HBO specials, to appearing in Kevin Smith movies or as Rufus in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” its impossible to miss the man. He was the first host of SNL and he’s appeared before the Supreme Court of the United States for Obscenity with his “Seven Words” bit.

This week’s ASMW post is in his honor…. George, the world will be a little less funny with out you.

All it takes is a spark!

logo_header-trans

Wild fires start with a simple spark. Whether or not its from a match, a lightning strike, an unattended campfire or a cigarette butt, it takes one little spark to set the world ablaze. Saint Catherine of Siena said that “If you are what you should be, You will set the World ablaze”. Izea, the folks who brought payperpost and paid posting to the forefront of the blogging world, hope you’ll become a prolific blogger with a myriad of topics from their SocialSpark system.

SocialSpark is the next revolution of blogging services. Besides being a ginormous marketing platform for bloggers and advertisers alike, its aiming to become a leader in social networking for blogging and seems to be well on its way.

Anyone looking to monetize their blog, make friends, find new and interesting reads or just develop a growing reader base should take a look at the new marketing trend SocialSpark is creating.

In addition to many “for pay” opportunities ranging from simple posts to full blown video/audio masterpieces, SocialSpark allows almost anyone to reach people by asking for help promoting items, posts, sites for virtually nothing more than a link in return. One of the nice things Spark is working to do is prevent the massive google spank many paid bloggers received last year.

SocialSpark unlike many of its predicessors is Search Engine Friendly. They include the nofollow tags in the links you use (which many engines are looking for these days). They’ve also got a pretty good code of ethics and like PPP pay on a fairly regular basis as well. There has been some negative feed back about some of the options for advertising (such as some embedded flash) but for the most part SocialSpark has been received pretty well.

If you’ve been looking for a good way to make some extra cash on the side (and these days, who hasn’t) don’t look too much further than SocialSpark. You might just set the world ablaze.

That was quick!

newseals.ap.wh Sometime last week, Obama unveiled a new “logo” while he was speaking to the Democratic leaders. Surprisingly enough, this logo didn’t last more than a week. Hailed by Obama supporters as “insightful” and “inspiring”, the new logo took on the current presidential seal and made many question the reasoning behind it.

When I saw it, and when I read an email floating around about how he would like to change the National Anthem, it made me really question what else he would change about our country and the answers I came up with scared me.

Its true, he studied Marxism in college (anyone who took a Poli Sci course did) but he took more from the reading than most. Its also true, that he doesn’t wear the Flag pin or put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is sung. He wants to see “health care for all” something the government shouldn’t be controlling at all and in a time when many Americans are looking for new and inventive ways to be able to afford gas, food and shelter, he wants to increase the funding for many government programs by raising taxes.

But the problem with Obama isn’t necessarily the fact that he wants to do all of these things, its nice to see a candidate that wants to see things done rather than toe the party line (oh, wait, thats what he’s doing!). Don’t get me wrong, McCain isn’t too much better in that regard either and its a tough call for me as to who to vote for this November. But if it comes down to voting for a Senator who’s been proven in both battle and the Senate or one who is still considered a relative new comer to the DC scene, I may just have to move to the Cayman Islands.

Summer Series

During the summer months all you hear about on the radio are the cool summer concert series going on in your area. Here in Atlanta, there’s the Summer Series @ the botanical gardens, chastain, Lakewood and other venues around town. Some are really cool (anyone want to go see the B-52’s or the ASO?) others, not so much.

One I wish would come our way is the Radio Disney series at Morey’s Piers in New Jersey. We could actually take the girls to that one as well as find other things to do in NJ. I imagine that the piers is something like the boardwalk in ocean city, MD.

But anyway, the Radio Disney series would be one to take the girls to. Grace loves Hannaha Montanna, the Jonas Brothers and a ton of the other Radio Disney stars. Most days when I pick the girls up from Daycare, the XM radio is on XM Kids or Radio Disney and we all sing along and they have some cool concerts going on every weekend in July.

The coolest would be the last one of the series where Raven-Symone from Cosby and Thats So Raven as well as Mitchel Musso from Hannaha Montanna will be performing. There are also a ton of other cool stars on the list to be there. Whether you’re checking out Wildwood nj motels or you live in the area, if you go, let me know how is was and see if you can find me a Rico’s T-shirt.

The Battle Goes On…

clinton-obama-tradeing-jabs It would seem that the democratic candidates are doing a better job at destroying their party then the GOP ever could. I haven’t written much about politics (or anything lately) since Huckabee was knocked out of the race, but the way Clinton and Obama go after each other, they seem to be doing little more than dividing the liberal base more than before.

Much to the point is the fact that Obama is (for all practical purposes) the nominee, yet Clinton still refuses to acknowledge that or step aside and let him move on. Bill Clinton was on record the other day talking about the fact that Clinton supporters are more against Obama then before. While this means some good news for McCain, its only good if they actually come out to vote. Lets see how long this infighting in the Democrat party can last. Maybe it will take some heat off the general election.

Either way, its a good thing that the popular vote does not decide the president…..
