100K Later…

100k I’m about a week late with this (blame it on the weather?) but last week (February 18th at approximately 5:15pm EST to be exact) my beloved 7.5 year old Nissan Xterra hit the 100,000 mile mark. I’ve had cars with 100k and more on them before, but they were either extremely used when I bought them (my first love car was an ‘82 Audi 4000) or they had more then 50k on them when they were handed down to me. This is the first car that my wife and I have put 100k on ourselves (though we came close with the fireball of death!)

We bought the xterra in July of 2002. It replaced a car I bought from my grandfather for $1 (as is the law). I drove it for the first year or so before it commandeered by Amy to be her ride while she drove around Grace (our first child). I was stuck driving the Fireball of Death (a blue/teal chevy cavalier that had a leak around the fuel injectors…) for almost three years until the Cavalier died and we replaced it with Amy’s minivan.

The X has endured a number of ipods and other a sundry of music devices, its been in one accident (I was rear ended in 2007 and got a new bumper and trailer hitch out of it), its made several trips to the beach and to Mardi Gras and has been on most of the US Forest Service roads (and some non-forest service roads) in North Georgia.

Still, the X drives almost as well as it did the day we drove it off the lot (it was a Sunday, we drove it to Church that evening to show it off). Granted it needs some new belts and could stand a GOOD cleaning both inside and out and some Black Magic to bring back the luster of the black molding around the bumper, but here’s to hoping I can get another 100k out of her.

Getting another 100k out of a used car is the hope of everyone who hits the 100k mark. It was my hope with my Toyota Corolla before it was totalled. Ah well…

@Angie: Yea, It is. Of course, it would take another 7 years for me to get there unless I started driving it a lot more. My commute went from 40 miles one way to 5, so it might take even longer!
