The Battle Heightens

large_delivers In case you missed it last night, Obama made his acceptance speech last night and while it reads to be a fairly good speech and the critics have all had nothing but praise, as I read through it, it reeked of the same old Democratic rhetoric that they’ve been spewing for years. Promising change, promising more government interference in your life and promising more wealth redistribution. The funny thing is that he wasn’t too specific in how he’s going to pay for it all.

I won’t go in to the fact that its not the Government’s job to provide for me and my own, nor is it expected. The problem lies in the fact that as a country we’ve strayed from the beliefs that helped form this country more than two centuries ago. The willingness to work hard has been thrown away and its become an “Its my right” country.

It wasn’t unexpected that the GOP was spinning the speech as soon as it started. The Dems will be doing the same thing next week in Minnesota. Its expected. They managed to do a good job poking holes in the promises (its not the government’s job to help automakers, the Japanese and European automakers aren’t having a problem at all) Obama was making. It will be interesting to see (if he makes it to the office) how many of those promises actually materialize. For S&G if you want to see how Obama voted while in the senate (he missed more than 50% of the votes this year) head over to Project Vote Smart.

I did like the fact that McCain congratulated Obama on the historic feat he accomplished (he did manage to become the first black man nominated for the presidency) and the fact that the acceptance speech was on the anniversary of King’s I have a Dream speech.

art.palin.file.giIn other FLIPPING AWESOME news, McCain is set to announce that Sarah Palin is going to be his VP Candidate. She’s a relatively new governor for the State of Alaska and she seems to bring a lot to the table as a candidate. It will be interesting to see exactly how this plays out and while I didn’t watch more than five minutes of the DNCC, I’ll be tuned in to the GOP Convention every night.

Does McCain's Choice of Palin as VP make you more or less likely to vote for him?

You nailed it — this is the same stuff the Dems have been selling for years.

    Some change, huh?

If people can’t see the paradigms in which their thinking operates on its own terms, there can never be any progress of any sort. (You do want progress, right? Have you tried to define what that would look like?)

Obama displays and encourages a self-analysis and critical thought that seems to be lacking in McCain’s campaign. Forget the labels of D and R, which become filters through which you interpret everything. Stick with what the current facts are, otherwise one is just working with blinders on.

Can you identify and argue for precisely what it is you disagree with without resorting to political caricatures and heuristics?

@MoneyEnergy: I don’t believe I’ve used caricatures, but that would be fun (however, I’m not the artist I should be for that). However, I’ll let you know where I stand (although i thought I made that clear in the post)…

I do not agree at all with universal health care. Health care should not be provided by the government. Besides the fact that it would turn in to a bloated mass of red tape, it doesn’t help and often hurts the citizens it is supposed to help (want proof? Ask canada or the UK).

I do not agree with eliminating the “Capital Gains Tax”. We need more than that. We need to eliminate the INCOME TAX in favor of the fair tax. Eliminating the CG tax will do little for anyone.

I do not believe that it is the governments job to help the automakers (which last I checked were PRIVATE companies) retool. In fact, the government should do the opposite and stay out of private business all together unless the safety of the people demand it. Also, its not the government’s job to make cars more affordable.

He’s pledged $150 BILLION dollars over 10 years to find renewable energy sources. I want to know a. where’s that money coming from while he’s “cutting taxes” and b. why couldn’t the private sector take that responsibility? Shell, BP, Chevron, and Exxon Mobile are all working in that area too. Don’t you think any one of them would KILL to be the company to develop that?

Also, if he really wants to help education along, they would back off of most of the government programs for education and put all of that responsibility back to the state and local governments. It ISN’T THE GOVERNMENT’s responsibility to educate me. That is the responsibility of my parents. The only one who should be responsible for my child’s education is me.

The problem isn’t that these things lack in America, but that Government has become this bloated mass that thinks it can do better than the Private Sector. Private schools have BETTER test scores than public ones because of the way they are run (look at the Ron Clark Academy as an example).

Everything Barak Obama wants to do will take away the drive from the private sector.

The main problem I have with Obama, in fact most of the Democratic Party is that they believe everything is a “right” when it most certainly isn’t. I’ve worked hard to provide for my family and I’ll be damned if I stand by while what I have worked for is taken away and given to someone who hasn’t done their share of the work or even made an attempt to get ahead. If thats not clear enough for you, I don’t know what is.
