Entrecard: All its cracked up to be?

egg_cracked So I’ve had EntreCard on the site for a while (almost since they debuted) and I have to say, at first the quality of visitor and sites from entrecard was good, however, they appear to be going the way of the BlogRush rather quickly as more and more spammy blogs join the entrecard crush.

At one point, I was dropping the maximum number of cards in a day I could and i saw a marginal bump in the numbers. Nothing to be over excited about (Nothing like a good digg or sphinn) but still some quality traffic. Lately though, those numbers have been dwindling and as I’m looking to promote my blog, those sites I’d advertise on are now costing in the 500’s for a day and have wait times of two weeks (many of them are full!) making it near impossible to get a spot on them (and these are sites that I know have quality traffic and content) while many of the splogs are open for business with lower rates.

I think entrecard is still a good tool for promoting your blog, but blog owners need to begin doing more to police the system themselves. Make use of the Report this Site link when you come across a spammy or nonfunctioning blog. Help keep the EC Clean.

One peculiar thing in Entrecard blogs is that when I start my day, I go through 10+ Entrecard blogs RSS feeds in my Google Reader.
After I’ve read their new content in Google Reader, I open the page in web browser, drop the card and close that tab.
This kind of behavious will appear in web traffic analyzers (i.e. google analytics) as traffic that has high bounce rate regardless on how much or little time I actually used with the feed.

What comes to gaming the Entrecard system, I’ve couple times been thinking whether or not I should put some sort of redirect for all users coming from sitehoppin.com or other similar sites, but at least so far I’ve got so little traffic from them (in comparison to rest) that it hasn’t been worth doing.

I do agree there are many more sploggy members of EC, so it’s taking me longer to choose the sites I will advertise on, but I disagree that the only good ones are in the 500ec range. I find a good many in the 30-200 ec range although as I said before, it takes more time to ferret them out.

I know my readership has increased and I think I have a few “repeats” and that’s a good thing!

I guess I’m different. I have been doing my blog in one version or another over the last 10 years and never really worried too much about rankings or traffic.
I have a steady core group of users/listeners who come in to chat or post on the forums or who just like to listen to the live music

This week I joined EC for the first time and it seems I’ve found a whole new batch of Kinksters and alt-lifestyle buffs (and a few hard core lesbians) who actually sit down and read what I write.

This is what my blog is out there for.

Who cares about the rest? Are people really THAT shallow that they think of other people out there as simply NUMBERS to be herded to one site or another?

I may have different opinions on the roles of Men and Women in my personal life, but my blog isn’t for ME or the MONEY… it’s for The Listeners and Readers (and the occasional single girl/sex slave who thinks I’m cute).

I’ve seen a drop in readers since I stopped hitting max each day on EC. I may have gotten 10 new daily readers from it. 10 is great, but when you are getting 200 hits a day just from EC and then the “if you don’t visit - they don’t visit” begins its a little disheartening.

I report sites all the time - there are some DOOZEY’s on there!

I’m relatively new to the Entrecard scene (it’s how I found you, btw), so my credits are still relatively low. So far I like the potential of the site. But I don’t think I’ll have enough credits to advertise on the big guys’ sites any time soon. I’m dropping away though. Just to see how it pans out in the long run.

I’m in the same boat - I’m not “feeling it” as much as before… I see a bump in traffic a bit; but it is a love/hate relationship. I can buy the credits if I want, I can spend 30 mins a day dropping, but the number bumps aren’t doing continuously super. I’m not kicking them to to curb yet, but… ;)
