Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. In case you hadn’t noticed (and based on my recent traffic graphs, you haven’t) I haven’t been posting much here lately. Blame it on the work I’ve been doing at linuxtracker. Blame it on the funk that has seemed to come over the blogging community since the middle of January. Blame it on the 60 degrees one day 29 the next weather we’re having here in Georgia, or just blame it on my need to get away from everything.

I admit, I could use a vacation. Right now, a 24 hour flight to Australia doesn’t sound too bad compared to the cold, then warm, then wet then dry then snowy weather we’ve had lately. No matter the amount of sea foam (which, contrary to the color wheel at Home Depot, is not really green so much as shaving cream white). I could use a vacation. So could Amy. It wouldn’t take much at this point for either of us to dial up a flight to Oz, England, or even Colorado and head away for a week or two.

Nothing spells relief like a well tailored holiday where you can just veg. Does it? I do promise to work at getting back in to the swing of things as march comes in like a lion at the end of the week….

Todays a little different for me in that its got a bit of a pop feel to it, but once you hear Changing Faces by Katie Todd you won’t be wondering why.

So tomorrow is V-Day. Thats right. Valentines day. Today’s ASMW comes in the form of the great Wynton Marsalis and his amazing horn. Thats right, “My Funny Valentine” you can listen to this cut over and over again!!

Thursday. What is it about Valentines day that has millions of guys around the world sweating the details of this fairly pointless holiday? People have been working for weeks trying to figure out the best valentines day gifts to give the love of their life. Visiting jewlery store, candy store, , card store, even pharmacy (Walgreens anyone?). All for what? To show your love on one day out of the year, when in fact, we should be sharing it year round with the ones we love. We shouldn’t single out this one day. Should we?

When you sit down and think about it, its fairly pointless. We just had Christmas. Most of the ones we love were showered with expensive and lavish gifts then, why go through the torment of trying to pick out a gift that conveys the right sentements when all you really have to do is send flowers? In this age where bigger is better, sometimes its the little actions that matter.

Of course, if you want to make a bigger impression, send flowers on a random day of the year, “just because”!

Its 1997. I’m on the quad at Oxford College of Emory University in wonderful Oxford, GA and a little known band making the rounds of college campuses is busy playing. The music sounded a lot like hootie and the blowfish, but a little closer to our age. It was cool and I was introduced to Sister Hazel.

All for you was their big radio hit that following year. People everywhere could be heard humming the chorus (and really, who could blame them?) and now, you can download it to your ipod for as little as 99 cents. What could be better? Well, not having to work for a living, but other wise, nothing. Absolutely, nothing.

One of the plugins in use here is the Yahoo Shortcuts plugin which aim to help make your blog supafly! Its an easy way of adding photos, links, maps and other rich media to Your blogposts with little effort.

The cool thing, is that they’re currently mailing out FREE t-shirts to those people who are using their wordpress plugin! I highly recommend you grab the plugin and the shirt before their all gone!

We write a lot of checks. Amy’s in the process of getting all the online bill pay setup, but there are things (like daycare) which that does not work for, so we’ll probably continue writing checks. Its amazing how quickly we go through them, it seems like we never have enough money to keep writing them, but they magically disappear from the checkbook. Lucky for us, Vista print wants to help us out with some really Cheap Checks.

Not cheap as in poorly made, but cheap as in cost. I’ve written about vistaPrint before (for business cards I think) and their work is pretty good when it comes down to it. The cool thing is that you can order as little as 25 checks for five dollars an order, even better? There’s a coupon code I’ll let you in on at the end of the post that will get you 25 checks for free as well. Granted the selection of backgrounds is a little smaller than some of the sites, but for $10 for 150 checks whose, complaining. I think though, the standard order is 100 checks.

They do limit you to 12 designs personal checks, which as I said was a little disappointing, as I can’t upload a photo of my dogs or kids, but the designs are pretty good for basic checks (and better than the ones you get from the bank). With the coupon code ‘BlogFreeChecks08′ you get 25 additional checks for free. Always a good thing.

Tomorrow is Super. No, really, in addition to being Mardi Gras, its a super Tuesday tomorrow as 20 states take to the ballot boxes to help choose the next president and while both parties think they have their chosen ones pretty much chosen (Obama and Mccain), I’m here to urge you to take a different tact when voting tomorrow.

I’d like to ask you to consider supporting Mike Huckabee tomorrow on one issue. The FairTax. Mike is the ONLY candidate in either party who supports this revolutionary new way of taxes, which ensures that EVERYONE (rich, poor, legal or illegal) pays their share of taxes. The fairtax could be considered the “Great Equalizer” of our time and the best way to get the information out there about it is to let those politicians know we want someone who’s serious about it.

If you’re like me and you live in a state with open primaries (I can vote in either party tomorrow) and you hadn’t decided who to vote for yet on either side (lets face it, NONE of the candidates really have anything new and exciting to offer) please consider Mike Huckabee and the FairTax. Please?

EDIT: I got home tonight and there were THREE messages on the Answering Machine from Romney for President. This is on top of the four we received over the weekend. If he wanted my vote, he definitely went about it the wrong way…

Its been a heck of a year so far, and here we are already heading in to February! Can you believe it?? Anyways, earlier in the month I had announced a contest for an itunes gift card. All you had to do to enter was include a link back to the post about the contest in one of your posts. You would have thought that with the ease of adding a link to a post, that people would be clamoring over each other to get a bit of the action. Well, you’d be wrong.

One lone reader dared do what no one else would. She linked to the post and lo and behold she won a gift card! I gave the option of amazon or iTunes and being the smart chica she is, she chose the amazon card. WAY TO GO CHICA!!

I promise I’ll have another contest in february, maybe this time around two people will play!
