All about the points

These days it seems the race for the democratic or gop nomination is all about the points. A new poll out (according to CNN) has Clinton leading Obama by only 6 points in New Hampshire. While its good news for Obama, I have to wonder about the effect this constant polling has on the race for the nomination. Obviously numbers are changing every day. One day Huckabee is up in Iowa over Romney, the next its reversed. Same thing in the democratic side. One day clinton is leading by a ginormous amount, the next by not so big.

I believe that for the majority of the population, those who don’t actually pay attention to what the candidates are saying, the poll results are what helps decide who they vote for. I know that if there is a clear GOP leader in the Georgia Primaries, I’ll vote in the Democratic Primaries instead in an effort to slow down the leading candidate (in the last two presidential primaries I’ve voted for Democrats. Alan keyes in 2000 and John Edwards in 2004). Thats one of the nice thing about Georgia’s Open primaries, it doesn’t matter which party you’re aligned with you can vote in either primary (but not both…).

Do you pay more attention to the poll numbers when it comes to giving the country the colon cleanse it truly needs every four years or do you actually listen to what the candidates are spewing?

Let Freedom Ring

Nothing sounds cooler than the sound of freedom ringing out. Ask those who were present when the Berlin wall fell and they’ll tell you the same. Well, nothing except the perfect crafted Grandfather Clock. My grandparents had one, the house where Grace and Emms go for day care has one (that sounds unbelievably cool) and I’d love to have one one day. I’ve been doing a lot of looking lately at the quality of clocks being made today and I haven’t found many that compare to the quality of Howard Miller clocks.

One in particular, the Howard Miller Reagan Grandfather Clock is a striking clock that would look good in any living room (formal or not) or dining room and would ring out with the sounds of freedom that Regan championed during his terms in the White House. Its a nice rich dark cherry color that has the feel of a presidential clock through out. The intricate carving and tones make it all the more valuable and its easy to see why it has such a hefty price tag.

In looking at the clocks, I also came across a rather informative article on choosing the right clock for a gift. The post has several good points which I hadn’t considered and which actually led me away from the Grandfather clock as a gift in favor of a newer alarm clock for the time being. Maybe some day we’ll get that grandfather clock. Maybe.

Thursday Thirteen - 13 AWESOME Christmas Gift Ideas

Thirteen AWESOME Christmas Gift Ideas
In no particular order…

  1. c.1970’s Bloomingdale’s Red Long Hair Sheep Fur Coat - This is for the pimp (or fraggle) in your life. What outfit is complete until you add this bundle of red long hair sheep fur?
  2. volcom clothing - The ultimate outer wear for the snowboarder in your ilife who like likes to shred it up on the slopes or for those of us who want to pretend (it doesn’t snow here…)
  3. Film is not Dead 2008 Wall Calendar a series of cool photos to help you remember that Film is not dead.
  4. Tokyo Flash “Twelve 5-9 B Version” Watch #TWELVE-5-9-B Be the coolest spy on your block with this very James Bondish looking watch from Japan. Its so cool you know you want one… (I do if anyone wants to buy it for me…)
  5. 160gb Black iPod - I know. The touch is sooo much cooler. Yea, it is, but for the same price (if not less) you can get 10 times the storage space than the touch. And besides, retro is cool.
  6. AeroGarden Herb Kit its an HERB garden yo (not that kind). What gourmet chef would prefer to use dried herbs when you could give them fresh herbs year round??
  7. Nintendo DS lite - Nintendo has done it right with their consoles lately (the wii rocks) and the DS is perhaps one of the best portable devices around. Even cooler is that they’re marketing them to my parents these days (have you seen the memory builder ads?)
  8. Cuisinart® Grind ‘N Brew® 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker - Coffee Lovers everywhere know that the best cup of coffee comes from FRESH Ground beans (right gruntled?). The 12 cup Grind ‘n brew is the best thing since sliced bread for coffee lovers. Nothings better than waking up to a cup of freshly ground coffee in the morning except waking up to 12.
  9. A Large handmade gift basket full of coffee (over 4 pounds) biscotti and more. Goes really good with the 12 cup Grind ‘N Brew…
  10. Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans - Dark Chocolate has been found to help generate gray matter in brains. Espresso beans are really good at getting you going… why not combine the two in to the perfect Stocking Stuffer??
  11. Lobster Gram - This really only works if you know someone who likes lobster, but Lobster Grams are a good way to send the one you love a nice meal that you two can cook together (be careful if cooking neeked…). I’m also pretty sure that if you type hannity in to the coupon code box you get a discount…
  12. Red Swingline Stapler - If I need to say more, you need to watch Office Space.
  13. Visa Gift Cards - yea, they’re a little impersonal and they kind of scream “I DON”T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS”, but sometimes, thats just the gift we need to give. Besides, what do you give your postman?

Happy thanksgiving!!
