While checking up on John Chow today I came across a cool new method to get free advertising on some of the bigger name blogs as well as some not so well known ones. By now you’ve noticed an image on the upper right side of the site (you noticed it right?). Thats my EntreCard. A new device in online marketing that costs nothing. Well, virtually nothing.
You gain credits for advertising on the network by visiting other blogs with entrecards and “dropping” your card. Like putting your Business card in a fishbowl at the local chili’s for a free meal. The more cards you drop, the more credits you get. The more credits you get, the more you can advertise. Sites like Problogger and Johnchow.com currently require around 100 credits (and a fairly lengthy wait) to purchase advertising through this method. The upside is that its a “free” way to get advertising (although not the best advertising) on some of the sites for a day.
For those of us with smaller budgets, entrecard is a great way to get the word out. You could advertise on a ton of smaller sites or a few larger sites with out breaking the bank. As Chow put it:
Because credits are build by having members drop their card, EntreCard can be a good source of traffic for the small blogger.
We’ll see how well it works.
