I’ve written before about Alzhimers and the affect it can have on people and families and I even encouraged you to join in the fight against it by walking. Now I want to urge you to get screened for AZ early. The earlier the better.
‘But mcangeli, how do I know I need to be screened?” you might ask. Well, there are several good indicators. If you can answer yes to more than one or two of the questions below, it might not hurt to have your memory checked.
- Am I becoming more forgetful?
- Do I have trouble concentrating?
- Do I have difficulty performing familiar tasks?
- Do I have trouble recalling words or names in conversation?
- Do I sometimes forget where I am?
- Have family or friends told me that I am repeating questions or saying the same thing over and over again?
- Am I misplacing things more often?
- Have I become lost when walking or driving in a familiar neighborhood?
- Have my family or friends noticed changes in my mood, behavior, personality, or desire to do things?
Chances are, if you’re like me (and you have one or more young ones running around) a couple of those are daily occurances (we once misplaced amy’s car keys for a whole weekend because Emma took them and hid them behind a doll). This post isn’t for you. However, if you get lost driving to work, repeat things over and over in conversation or you forget names and faces of people you know maybe its a good time to be checked.

I think it is very important to get screened early, doubly so if you have a history of AZ in the family.
In my case though I know it’s just absentmindedness on my part. No excuse, Joana is just prone to forgetting anything and getting distracted at the drop of a - hey, you have such a cute picture of a doggy showing in your random image thinger. It’s entitled “Mexico Beach & Dance Rehearsal 084″ and the doggy is just staring at me with this adorable face! *melts*

I love the AFA. My mom did this opp as well (she’s part of ppp) and because of this opp she is going into to get a screening as well. She has been overly forgetful and Alzheimer’s runs in our family. So, thankfully for the AFA offering this service she’s getting off her butt and doing something! Hopefully it turns out to be nothing!

I think it’s doubly awesome that she’s going to go in get a screen, especially since there is a history of it in your family.

“Yea, I should probably talk my dad in to getting screened….”
My dad would first have to admit that he ever forgot anything in his life instead of just insisting he was never told in the first place! Lucky me–my boyfriend has that same syndrome.

You screen, I screen, we all screen for ice cream!
Unlike the Angeli family mine started out weird at
a young age. So don’t wait, wig out early.
Damn, I hope my mind goes soon, I can’t stand
watching the rest of me head south. Er, SW maybe?
Jade, All dudes have that syndrome, it’s just
male protective coloring. Get out of an argument
free card.

I don’t know so much about the ‘get out of an argument free card’ part! It tends to cause more for us
I’m insistent that if either of them cared enough to actually pay attention when I spoke to them, they’d remember
Jade’s last blog post..Boys.
