Too old?

I like Fred Thompson. Seriously I do. I think he’s a good actor, he was a good senator and I think he would have made a hell of a president 15 years ago. However, I think he’s too old (look at the photo… another year or two he could stand in for Emperor Paliptine from Starwars) to run for president. Its almost as silly as Marylin Manson standing in line for Garth Brooks tickets ( bet he’s a closet fan of Garth’s).

It was nice to see that he’s Back on the campaign trail where he started in S. Carolina, but I have to wonder if its really enough. He hasn’t come out with any breathtaking ideas for reform, he hasn’t said much other then “I’m not them” when it comes to his stances on current issues. If Thompson (or any of the other GOP candidates really) want to be taken seriously, they need to do something drastic, like come up with an original idea. As for Fred, I like the guy, and he makes one hell of a DA on Law and Order but the next Regan he is not.

I have to disagree, simply because, I don’t believe anyone is “too old” to do a good job. Certainly, their ideas can be outdated, but a person’s age should not be a reason to be crossed off the list in this case.

Oh, I don’t think he wouldn’t do a good job, I’d just want to make sure he had a good VP in office as well. I don’t know if he could go the distance when it comes to lasting the term.

With the right VP I suspect we would have some great leaders running this country. Regardless, it will be interesting to see who walks away the winner.

Unfortunately the day we have great leaders running the country is the day you know that there is something seriously wrong. There is always going to be someone in office that makes someone else mad or if you think they’re going to do a good job they mess something up.

And yea, he does look like an ex-president doesn’t he? haha I do have to admit..he has sex appeal!

I have to disagree, although there have been leaders who stirred up controversy the fact remains that they were great leaders and did something extrodinary while in office.

I think the day we have really good leaders running the country is not a day that something is seriously wrong, but a day that needs to be marked on our calendars and celebrated. Because baby, we lived through the worst and now the better times are ahead.

There were people in office that did good things, true. But unfortunately they did not always do good things and ended up doing bad things. There has not been one president that has made everyone happy with everything they have done. We have lived through the worst, yes, but…who is to know that this was just the start? It may not have been the worst after all.

So because they weren’t completely perfect they aren’t good leaders? I’m sorry but I fail to see how you can believe this. No human being is perfect, and certainly it’s asking a bit much to expect a leader to be the epitome of virtue in order to be considered a “good leader”.

Exactly. Saying one person is or has been a good leader is definitely a matter of personal opinion. A good leader to me is appeasing the general public more than just once in their terms. That has yet to happen in my eyes. Like I said, it’s just a matter of personal opinion.

I’m sorry, but I still don’t get what you’re saying, because, as you said, a good leader appeases the general populace. That would be the majority, and by that definition our country has had good leaders. Though sadly, not in our (yours and mine) lifetime.

I fear we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this point. Although, it was good to hear your thoughts on this and to debate it with you. :)
