Batteries

One of the sales reps here at the office keeps leaving the power cord for his laptop at home. Something I can’t understand how he keeps doing it, but some how he does. He also spilled sweat tea on the last one so this laptop is a newer model. He asked today about getting a second power cord and where he could get it, maybe I should suggest a laptop battery as well?

I’ve looked at getting a spare batter for myself, I could use one on fireworks shows when I’m not near an outlet (this laptop goes through power like Jason through deep fried snickers) and on longer trips it would be handy as well. Prices are the prohibiting factor, though LaptopsForLess seems to have the edge on pricing. Plus, I can order from them any time online.

There are some things you can do to help laptop batteries last longer. At least once a week, make sure to run your laptop with out the power cord attached to drain the battery. Make sure to allow for adequate airflow around the laptop itself and keep the fans and air intakes clean. Simple measures can keep your new batteries running like pro’s.

Blind?

We’re still trying to figure out what kind of window treatments to put in the kitchen windows. Right now we have a ton of plants along the back wall in the kitchen (which looks ok) but I think I still want to put Blinds of some sort up. I’m torn though. Amy thinks we only need blinds on the two windows and the door that go out to the deck and that the three along the back of the house don’t need anything. I think that if we do blinds on any of the windows in there that they all need them done. We put the faux wood blinds up on the front of the house and they look good. Not to mention that the windows in the living room currently have this dark green roll type shade on them that will need to be replaced as well.

Personally, I’d like wood blinds from select blinds (did you know they’re the exclusive provider for Extreme Home Makeover?). They look nice, they’ll add a nice feel to the kitchen and living room and they’re better than shades or the cheaper vinyl blinds that I could get at wallmart.

Unless I can find Corn Curtains like in the Simpsons kitchen…. those would rock.

Thirteen ways to monetize your blog!

Thirteen ways to monetize your blog!!
In no particular order…

  1. Google Adsense. Really, by now, who hasn’t heard of Google Adsense? Some of us may even use adwords to advertise, but adsense is still the leader when it comes to making money online (at least through ads). If you qualify for an adsense account you add the code to your site (there are several wordpress plugins to do this for you) and you’re off and running. Some sites only make pennies a month, others make thousands.
  2. AdBrite is another online advertising site. Unlike adsense though, you can have people signup to advertise only on your site and YOU get to approve the ads before they run. Plus, adbrite has a variety of ad types (banner, text, full page) to choose from. It all depends on you!
  3. BloggingAds is another player in the blogvertising area. I’ve been on their program for a while, but have yet to have an opportunity to do anything for them. Not sure if they have an active advertiser base yet.
  4. Kontera is a contextual advertising system. Once the code is placed on your site, you’re done. They do all the work. Its nice in that you don’t have to think about it and using span and div tags you can decide where to put the ads for their program. There are even plugins for the kontera program that make it easy to use their program. I’ve been using them on another site for almost a year now and I average about $150 every two or three months from them.
  5. PayU2Blog doesn’t have the high payouts that some of the other paid blogging services have, but they have nice easy contextual (they give you a link and the anchor words, you work them in to the post) ads and pay out every two weeks via paypal.
  6. Sell reviews on your blog. If you have a well established blog with a decent PR (say 3) and a good alexa ranking, you can always offer to do site reviews on your website. This benefits two people. You get more links going from your site to other sites (looks good in google) AND the site reviewed gets a little more traffic from search and your readers. Plus, 20 bucks for 100 words on how cool a site is is pretty easy money.
  7. PayPerPost is currently the biggest player in the paid blogging market. They have opps ranging from $5 for 50 words to $250 (biggest I’ve seen so far). They pay out via paypal 30 days once the post is approved (If you start posting and you post continually after that first 30 days you have a credit to your paypal account every day!) There are members who are averaging 2k a month on PPP (its easy to do with multiple blogs). I’m at an average of $1,000 for two months so far. Not only do they offer text posting, but they have advertisers looking for video posts as well.
  8. Sell links on your site. This is perhaps the oldest way known. simply throw up a link to allow people to buy $5 text links on your blog roll or other area on your site.
  9. DealDotCom is the new w00t. Well, actually its w00t for webmasters. Everyday they have a different deal for people looking to make a living on the web. For instance, todays deal is a video on turning Domains in to Dollars and is more than half off the normal cost. They have an interesting affiliate program where you earn when people sign up under the people under you. Plus there are wordpress widgets available to help with selling.
  10. Affiliate Programs like Amazon.com, are a good source of a little extra revenue. especially if you write about books or movies on a regular basis.
  11. Bidvertiser is another adsense type advertising program. They’re a little more picky than adsense when it comes to clicks.
  12. use Pheedo to monetize your blog feeds or add ads to your pages. Its a good deal and while it takes a bit to get a pay out with them, its nice to receive a random check.
  13. Sell your blog and go fishing (or take a nap!) If you have a highly successful blog, find some poor soul to buy it from you so you can go enjoy life. Its too short to spend blogging isn’t it?
