Grandma Faucheux has a cell phone. Its a big step for her, taking something technical like that, but its a good one. She does a lot of traveling and this way she can keep in touch with her kids and grandkids where ever she is. There’s much to be said for Senior Cell Phone usage. When my grandparents moved to Georgia, dad got them a cell phone so that grandpa could have it on him at all times. It made it easier for us to get in touch with him and it provided an extra layer of protection.
These days easy to use cell phones have brighter screens, bigger buttons and one touch dialing, plus they come with emergency plans or lower rate plans to ensure the safety of the owner. Its not a bad idea to have one.
Amy found out that Grandma got one last week and was quick to ask for her “digits”. Its nice to see that there are some things that change and maybe now that she has a cell phone we can get her a computer of some sort so we can send her photos of the girls.

MSN has an interesting article on 10 habits of Highly Annoying workers. It was a fun read, and I do have to agree with most of them. Such as Number 1
You make a daily call to your partner to “check in,” which can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes and, depending on how you two are getting along these days, can result in either a nasty fight or the sweet murmurings of baby talk.
and the good old Number 9
You don’t see the need to learn how to send a fax or fix a paper jam when there’s always someone around to help you do it.
Are there any annoying habits your coworkers have?

A while ago, I mentioned that we were looking to transfer some existing credit card balances to new cards in order to escape the interest rates. One of the problems we were having was finding the right card to transfer too. Until I came across bad credit offers. Its a cool site that compares all the cards you get fliers for in the mail. You know the ones, “You’ve been approved for 10,000 credit line on our amazing, super cool, colossal mastercard”. The deals that seem too good to be true right? Badcreditoffers.com can help you weed through the junk and find the ones right for you. It helped us.

There may be trouble ahead for the Dems in Michigan as no less than FIVE of the candidates withdrew from the Michigan primary on Tuesday, rendering it almost pointless. Apparently, this all has to do with the fact that Michigan moved their primary up to January 15th, while the DNC rules only allow four states (Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina) to hold their primaries before Feb. 5th.
Some think this is a way to take some steam out of clinton’s campaign:
If there’s no campaign, the candidate most likely to win Michigan is Hillary Clinton,” Schneider said. “Her Democratic rivals don’t want a Clinton victory in Michigan to count. They want Iowa and New Hampshire, where they have a better chance of stopping Clinton, to count more.
And if thats the case, more power too them. However, I have to wonder if this has less to do with that and more to do with staying true to one’s own party. It is, after all, a well known fact that Ms. clinton wants to be all things to all people and remaining in the Michigan primary would help her appear that way. At least to Michigan. She can always claim she didn’t know about the rules later. Right?
Also, I don’t usually agree with Lou Dobbs (most of the time I think he’s a pompous windbag) but on the issue of wearing a flag pin I do. The flag is a symbol of our country and not of any one party or belief. If you choose not to wear one for personal reasons, thats up to you but you really need to consider those reasons closely.

I’m not a big fan of the whole “going green” movement. I drive an SUV. I run my AC full tilt in the summer and I love relaxing in my hot tub on cool evenings. I do however like the idea of finding other alternative energy sources, especially if they keep the cost of living down. The BP Solar Decathlon is trying to do just that. Twenty teams, made up of university students from around the world are working to develop a livable, every-efficient, and completely solar-powered house. I think this could be cool.
Solar panels are already working to power laptops, heat water, recharge lights in remote villages. Its entirely possible and very 22nd century, that the future of roofs includes massive solar panels. The improvements in Solar power have been great in the last years, driving the size down and making them more efficient, I don’t see why we wouldn’t be seeing more development in this area. How very George Jetson it would be to have your house powered by the sun one day, don’t you think?
Whats even cooler than the contest itself is that you can visit the BP Solar Decathlon Blog and check in on how the teams are doing. Its pretty cool to see the stuff they’ve come up with and the directions their taking. It does lead me to wonder if they have to trade out some of the current luxuries in order to save power.

I like banjo music. Well, bluegrass in general, but really banjo music. So much so that I have a banjo at home thats been dying for me to learn to play it properly for the past two years. I came across Abigail Washburn on Amie Street the other day and fell in love. Not only does she play the banjo but her voice and lyrics are awesome as well. I highly recommend the first track (fall on my knees) which you can hear below. Its a cool tune. Though the rest of her stuff is good too.
