  • Ok, McCain’s speech isn’t the shot out of the park that Palin delivered last night, but its a good solid double off the wall… #

Have another Shot!

Maybe that should be have another sip. In college my drink of choice was tequila. I got over that one night when I didn’t move for almost 48 hours afterwards but even now, I like drinks mixed with tequila and when I enjoy a good cigar I like to sit down with a *GOOD* glass of tequila or rum. I tend to stay away from shots these days and take my time. The Tequila Guy wants to make sure you’re fully prepared when it comes to drinking the good stuff. The site is packed with good information on how to pick a quality drink. Apparently, good, high quality Blue Agave Tequila is really, really good even though you may have to take out a small loan to get it.

google love

Google needs to do a PR update. According to some sites google hasn’t updated PR in over 150 days which is putting a cramp on a lot of sites. There have also been rumors that Google is doing away with PR, which people would bitch and moan about as well. Either way, no one is being helped by Google PR at the moment. What can we do? Not much.

Home Maintenance

As a homeowner one of my many joys is making sure my abode is well taken care of. Mowing the Grass, replacing window panes, painting, small fix it up projects always seem to be in plentiful supply. Some times I wish I had more help than a three year old to get it all done. You people in Austin (texas…) are lucky. There’s a group out there who specialize in Austin home maintenance and who do a pretty good job at it. The guys at TX Construction will help out with what ever you need at home (short of cooking dinner and putting the baby to bed). Roof Cleaning, presure washing, changing out air filters, they do it all and at a reasonable price too. Need something done around the house but not sure how to do it yourself? Check them out.

Consolidate

One of the hardest things as a High School Junior or Senior is sifting through Colleges trying to find the right fit for you. I applied to 5 different schools, I was accepted by two and wait listed by three (one of them I actually wrote back and told them I would live out of my car and audit the classes anyways…). I ended up going to the two year college of one of the larger universities in the Atlanta area and boy did I have a ton of Student Loans from the process.

One of the first things I did after getting married was student loan consolidation. Taking the multiple payments (I had three I think) and combining them in to one lower payment. It helped a lot! Granted thats when the interest rates on Student Loans was lower but still, consolidating a current student loan can lower your payment, decrease the amount of time you have left to pay and free up some cash for you as well. I’d check it out.

Thursday Thirteen #7

Thirteen things to do in order to generate traffic for your blog!
In no particular order…

  1. LISTS! People love lists and they like to read lists for some reason. Create a list (no more than 10 items) such as 10 good linux distributions or 5 tricks for windowsXP. People love that!
  2. Join BlogRush. While they claim the traffic to your site will be huge, it returns moderate traffic that acually seems to stick around.
  3. Post on forums. Join a couple of forums that you’re interested in (webmaster, seo forums…) and put your url in your signature. Then, be a productive member of the forum community. Don’t be a dick.
  4. Write about Current Political Events. We’re coming in to the 2008 presidential election. News of what the candidates abounds and chances are you like one of them. Write about the candidate you like. Talk smack about the ones you don’t. The search engines will pick it up and you’ll get more traffic from those posts alone!
  5. Join MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog. These are two of the best around. Traffic from them is nice too and the people tend to comment.
  6. Find a couple of other blogs that match yours. Start reading them regularly and become a frequent commenter. Chances are, the owner of the other blog will do the same and comment on your site too.
  7. Sign up for a Paid Blogging Program not only can you make money blogging but you can increase search traffic and gain new ideas for posts. Chances are they have something on there to blog about that you like or use and would not have thought about otherwise…
  8. Join a meme like Thursday Thirteen or Amie Street Wednesday. Two good ways to meet other bloggers and generate traffic and posts.
  9. Sponsor a Contest! While raffles aren’t kosher on blogs (so it seems) contests of other sorts are. Sponsor a link back contest (have your readers linkback to your post via a trackback and then award a cash or other prize to one of the blogs). People like that sort of thing. Another way to do it is to award reviews of other sites on your site.
  10. Spam sites like Facebook and MySpace. I don’t really like this method, but some do and it works for some.
  11. Use Digg, Thoof, redit, stumbleupon or any of the other sites like that to help get your posts out there.
  12. Set your blog as the home page on any computer you come in contact with (at school, the library, your friend’s house)
  13. There’s always Google Adwords. Though, paid advertising for a general blog seems a little over the top. I could see it if you were starting the next TechCrunch but for a blog about your cat?
