The World is divided into armed camps ready to commit genocide just because we can't agree on whose fairy tales to believe.

Which is worse?

I don’t talk much about celebrities on here, thats what Perez Hilton and the superficial are for but I wanted to make a short comment about the news that Britney Spears has lost custody of her children. While I don’t think much of K-Fed as a singer or actor, he has shown remarkable poise and dedication as a father and while if they were my children, I wouldn’t want him to be the Guardian, he is a better choice than his Ex. Ms. Spears stints in drug rehabilitation clinics have done little for her (and her friend Ms. Lohan). Maybe this is the wake up call she needs to get her life in order. Maybe.

English Only Please

So this is America (last time I checked anyway) and while we haven’t officially declared English the official language of the USA, it has been spoken here well, since the country was started. There’s a sandwich shop in Philly thats receiving more attention than usual (its generally just been a stop on the campaign trail for most presidential candidates) for a sign that was posted last year by the owner:

This is America. When Ordering Please Speak English

Personally I see nothing wrong with this. The store is the property of Joe Vento and if Mr. Vento wants to only serve English Speaking customers, he should have that right. There’s supposed to be a hearing sometime this month on the legality of the sign but from where I sit, there’s no question. The sign should stay. Its enough that there are bi-lingual signs in most of the major retailers (ever been to a Home Depot?) and on most of the major products, there are at least TWO languages when it comes to the instructions.

The new problems arise though, because it is a popular stop on the campaign trail. To the candidates who stop there, I say well done. Now, lets put that sign up along our borders and at our international airports… :???:

Water, Water, nowhere!

My xterra is a mess. An absolute mess. Its been a while since it had a good cleaning both inside and out. Of course, its been fireworks every other week so I just tended to throw my gear in the back and leave it. Now, its time to clean the truck and I can’t wash the outside. At least not at home. Something about a state wide watering ban or something that prevents me from using the water that comes out of my house to wash my car or water my lawn or run through the sprinkler. Where’s the love Georgia?

That brings up another question. How come I can’t wash my car at home but I can go down the street and pay $20 to have someone else wash it? Seriously, I want to know why and does anyone know how I can keep leaves from collecting under my truck rack? They leave a nasty residue that I can’t seem to get rid of.

Over extended?

If you’re like most American’s these days, your credit is stretched beyond belief. According to one report, the *AVERAGE* american household with at least one Credit Card has $9200 worth of debt on that one card alone. Not to mention car payments, home improvement loans and everything else (buy today same as cash for 12 months!) we manage to rack up in a month. Some people look towards cash advance loans but those can be taxed at a higher interest rate then a regular loan. Out side of putting the cards in the freezer (which is what almost every debt counseling service will tell you to do) how can you get those high balances back under control?

One of the quickest things to do is look at a refinance on your existing mortgage (try and get some cash back and reduce your monthly payments at the same time) or even consider taking out a second Mortgage Loan on your house. Either way, one thing you definitely need to do is working on moving from a reliance on credit cards to a cash and carry system. It will hurt a little at first but you’ll be happy at the end of the month that you only spent what you had. At least, we are anyways.

Best of Both Worlds?

Our family likes Hannah Montanna. Its a fun show to watch together as a family (Grace is at a point where she likes the show and if we had to choose between her acting like Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears… well…) and it actually has some pretty good teaching moments for the little ones. Grace also likes the music, when ever it comes on the Xm radio, Grace is all ears and I have no doubt that she would enjoy the concert as well. However, it looks like she won’t be going this year.

2650 for a ticket. A TICKET! Thats insane. I’ve paid a good bit for a ticket before (I think the last time I bought jimmy buffett tickets I paid around 100 a ticket) but there is no way in hell that I would pay 2600 for a ticket. I don’t care who the show is. According to CNN, Hannah Montanna tickets are selling faster than tickets for the Police tour this year. Crazy! Well, you won’t catch us there, at least not yet.

Throw the book at them!

I think I’ve come across the perfect gift for the girls this Christmas. Personalized Christmas Story Books. One thing I will always buy them if they ask is books. I love reading and I want them to like it as well. Grace almost has a full bookshelf (one of the six shelf ones) full of books and I think the personalized books would make a great addition. The problem I have now is whether or not I go with the default Christmas books or the princess books. Its a tough call, but I think Grace would like reading about her, Emma and their friends with the Disney princesses don’t you?

Amie Street Wednesday offical blog and WP-plugin!

So, Mouseclone took some advice I sent his way and started a dedicated blog to the Amie Street Wednesday MEME for the blogging. For those who don’t know what ASW is, its a chance to take a favorite artist on Amie Street and promote them on your blog. Amie Street is a really cool resource for music downloads ranging from FREE to 99 cents a song and they have a lot of the lesser known groups.

I’ve been participating in ASW for the past month (since MC came up with the idea) and I think its a great way to help Amie Street out. You can grab the Wordpress plugin HERE and see the ASW site.

New Kid

So there’s a new place to check out if you’re looking for Electronics. ShopLift.com is entering the game in the discount electronic stores with prices at 30 to 90% off if you can find what you’re looking for.

The selection is decent and the prices are pretty good. The layout is simple to follow as well. I was able to find a Garmin GPS unit for my car for $100 off the MSRP. Which isn’t bad at all. I would expect that as the site grows in popularity their inventory will grow as well. All items are brand new from the factory and they carry the original warranties as well. Making the deals even better. Another nice aspect is that most of the items have free shipping as well (always a plus!). The categories on the site vary from clothes to games, to computer hardware to gardening tools. You name it, ShopLift.com seems to have it all (They have Halo 3 for 59.99!!). Could you ask for more stuff in one place??

If you’re looking for a gift for that hard to shop for person in your life, check out shoplift.com, they might have what you’re looking for.

Moneypenny

Its a sad day in the world of James Bond. The secretary the spy never seemed to be able to have has passed away. Lois Maxwell played Ms. Moneypenny in 14 James Bond films including the first, Dr. No with Sean Connery in 1962. The way those two played together was perfect. Moneypenny waiting in her office for the super spy. Meeting his every comment with one of equal wit, the part was played perfectly.

Ms. Moneypenny, we’ll miss you!

Wood!

One of the owners of the company where I work likes to do wood working. He brought back a bunch of redwood from California when he went there on business before. One of the the things he’s pretty good at making is custom pens. He’ll put a nice piece of red oak on a lathe and have that thing spun down until its a nicely weighted pen that looks good too. He’s gotten pretty good at it. I’ve heard he’s working on moving up to bats next…
