So we’re putting the finishing touches on the kitchen (the new furnature will be here on Saturday, the art is being framed) and we’re trying to decide what kind of window treatments we’re going to do. Its tough between mini blinds, faux wood blinds or just a valance or something like that. I personally like the faux wood blinds in white (you know the thick, two inchers) especially since the afternoon sun comes in the back windows but Amy is leaning towards some kind of valance or something and no blinds (leaving the windows more open).
It really doesn’t matter too much, the sun will come in any way but we have to find something nice to complete the look (Modern French Farmhouse…). Maybe Shutters??

I don’t generally like to talk about politics in a public setting (I was always told there are two things you never talk about in public or with friends, Religion and Politics) but this just has to be covered. Senator Obama announced his Tax Plan today in a speech to help him gain some ground on clinton as the progressive front runner. Unfortunately, his “fair” tax plan is nothing close to Fair.
Obama is calling for over 80 Billion in tax cuts, which he claims will help the “Middle class” but in fact would do very little for families bringing in anywhere from 50 to 100,000 a year. Those it would help? Elderly couples who bring in less than 50k a year and home owners who bring in less than 50k as well. He also wants to establish a credit up to 1,000 for more people (though for most of us it wouldn’t be worth it) if we take the simple deductions (instead of itemizing).
I want you to know, I am by no means a CPA. I file my taxes every year like the rest of the country, but I can’t help but wonder if this plan of Obama’s (which is pretty to look at if you fit in his demographics) would hurt more than it would help. From where I sit, cutting 80 billion in taxes would hurt the country at this point. What he should have suggested is moving away from the Income tax to the Fair Tax or National Sales Tax.
Under the fair tax, EVERYONE is taxed the same. What you make on paper is what you take home at the end of the week and you’re taxed on what you spend. I makes sense. Obama thinks its possible for an american to file his taxes in under five minutes (providing the IRS supplies us with the docs already filled out), well, I’ve got news for him, if we went to a fair tax, you wouldn’t spend any time filling out tax paper work. It would be great!
If you haven’t heard of the fair tax yet, you’ve been living under a rock. Check out Fairtax.org and contact your congressman about it. ITs a worth while cause that would fix a lot of problems for a lot of people.

So there’s a new widget in the sidebar. Something that has links to other blogs and topics that might interest you. I’ve signed up on BlogRush. They promise to boost my targeted traffic (FOR FREE) by publishing links to my posts on related blogs and blog posts. The more the widget is viewed on my page, the more views my posts will receive on other blogs.
If it works, it could be a big boon to the traffic, if it doesn’t then no loss, I might find something new to read. Now to come up with more interesting stuff to write about
Blogrush - 7 Critical Mistakes - Andy Beard talks about it a little more indepth…

Every couple of months it seems the news is full of articles going on about the Dangers of Crocs! and every couple of months, I have to shrug and say so what? If you’re a parent, and your child is one of the poor, unfortunate souls who gets hurt riding an escalator in their crocs, well, maybe you should reevaluate your parenting.
If you, as a parent, are paying enough attention to your offspring while riding up a level at the mall, airport, stadium, then chances are your child will be perfectly safe. Its when we’re busy sending text messages, or chatting on the phone or to the person next to you or just standing there staring off in to space remembering what life without the rugrat at your side was like that their most likely to get hurt. This society has gotten to a point where its easier to look for someone to blame when someone gets hurt (whether its in a pair of crocs on an escalator or at the ball park) than to evaluate what you could have done to prevent it.
Warning signs on escalators, hair driers, toasters and cereal boxes are well and good but we need to question whether or not we need them in the first place. Maybe not having those warnings will help make the human race smarter and better off in the long run (I’ve always believed a little chlorine in the gene pool might not be a bad thing
) Oh and if you’re soooo concerned about your child in their crocs, don’t let them wear them. Emma and Grace love theirs…
