A Good Nights Sleep….

Sleep With three dogs, two kids (soon to be three) and a wife that tosses and turns most of the night its almost impossible for me to get a solid nights sleep at home (unless I crash on the couch in the basement). The mattress we used to have, I could feel every toss, bump, move and bounce that amy made on her side of the bed while we were sleeping. If she didn’t sleep, I didn’t sleep. Not any more.

Two years ago, we broke down and invested in a sleep number bed (I’m around a 60 - 65) and it was one of the best investments we’ve made. If I need a little firmer mattress one night and a soft pillowly mattress the next, its easy peasy. I just hit the buttons on the remote for my side of the bed and I’m in sleep heaven. Plus, I cannot feel amy as she tosses and turns all night. Which is nice, the only way I know she isn’t sleeping is when I hear the tv click on and see the glow of the LCD through my eyelids.

Yea, I still have the dogs and kids to contend with when it comes to getting a good nights sleep, but at least I’m comfy when I’m trying to catch 40 winks.

Fine Art!

While on our cruise Amy and I were introduced to Park West Art Gallery through their Park West at Sea program. The gallery puts a bunch of paintings (valued at millions!) on board and has auctions through out the week. It was the first time we had seen a lot of the art and the first time we had been to an auction. It was a blast!

Anyway, we’re decorating the kitchen (as I mentioned earlier) and I came across their Summer 2007 collection on line. Let me tell you, while I can’t afford any of the art in the collection, I can dream can’t I? After all, who wouldn’t like to own an original Peter Max piece? Instead we’re going with some other stuff we found and we’ll be saving for that day we can afford a piece from their collection.

Dangerous book for boys!

Why wasn’t this book around when I was growing up?? Its full of stuff every boy should know (like how to play marbles or make a whistle out of a stick) and even stuff girls should know (you can bet I’m going to buy a copy to have on hand for when Emma and Grace are older. Books like this one encourage kids to get outside and play. Put down the remote, the controller or whatever and have fun. Learn to play marbles, chart the skies, build a fort and it does it very well.

If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for a new dad (or maybe for your dad) Dangerous Book for Boys would be perfect. It might help him relive his youth.

Faucet? We don’t need no stinkin faucet (actually we do!)

In case you haven’t been around, we’re in the middle of redoing our kitchen. First the wallpaper came down, then it was painted. Now I’m finishing up tiling the floor (and it looks good!!). Next, we’ll redo the counters, with that comes the sink. There were some cool sink designs in the last Home Depot Expo catalog that came out, my problem is I don’t know if I want to part with the AWESOME Delta Faucet that my inlaws installed when they redid the kitchen last time.

Its this nice massive chrome faucet that allows me to put my largest stock pot (a 30qt pot) under it for filling and then it moves out of the way (a must since its a double sink currently) for me to get the pot out. I’ve been looking at faucets and while I think it would be cool to have something like This or even something like This, I can’t help but feel we’ll end up leaving the current faucet in place.

Which isn’t really that bad of a thing, I just don’t know how well it goes with Amy’s “Modern New Orleans/French Farmhouse” theme she wants to do in the kitchen…
