Labor Day??

In the states, we celebrate Labor day as a salute to the workin’ man. The only problem is that the workin’ man always seems to be stuck working on Labor day. None of the stores or restaraunts are closed. Most everyone else is stuck doing stuff around their house that they didn’t get done during the week (did you see the Home Depot ads for Behr paint on sale? Who wants to spend their holiday painting?). I spent the day finishing the tile job in the kitchen.

The tile is down. It just needs to be grouted. I’ll be the first to admit, I did a little of the work on the job, most of it was done by a friend who owns a flooring company. After watching what goes in to it, the planning and the prep, I feel I could handle tiling my bathrooms now. Which is a good thing.

I did get to spend Saturday working outside in the yard (which still needs more work) and we dropped Lumiere off for two weeks of obedience school, we hope it will help him stop barking (and running in circles…). I also had Fireworks on Friday night.

What did you do for your labor day?

Tiling the floor? That is fun. I wet saw makes the corners really easy. When looking at doing a tile floor, the prep work is most important of all. The BCT tile you see in stores will start to crack/bubble because of a grain of sand. Over time a grain of sand will cause a ceramic tile to crack in two.

I would scrap, vacuum up, scrap, vacuum up, float the floor with R-dex, and clean up what need to be cleaned up from that vacuum about 3 times and then start laying the tile. It might be over kill, but you will not enjoy replacing 1 tile.

Good look on your flooring. I did my old bosses kitchen, turned our really nice. One last thing though. Make sure it is square. Square off of walls and counters if you can.
