She’s almost four. She’s been away from home before and Amy and I had left her at home for a week or so before with Grammy and Talka Breezy. This is a little different though. This time, Grace and Emma went to Chicago with Grammy. She’s done this trip before, but she was younger then, I’m not sure she completely understood what was going on then.
Well, she’s almost four now, she understands things a little better. They’ve been in Chicago since last Thursday when Amy and I headed out to Colorado, and I think she’s starting to miss things at home. Last night on the phone she was really upset that we hadn’t picked her up on our way back to Kennesaw. She wanted to talk to the puppies as well (which in and of itself is another post…
).
I’ve dealt with homesickness before, when I was a boy scout, we had a friend who came down with a really bad case of it at summer camp our first summer. One of the only ways we ever found to keep the homesick person from calling home and keep them busy. Before they know it, camp is over. Its a little different this time around, Grace is six years younger, but I think the fact that they’re keeping her busy in Chicago, and the fact that Amy will be up there tomorrow night will help things a lot.
Its hard when your oldest goes away for a week, but its part of growing up and if I’ve learned one thing, its experiences like these that make us who we are as adults.
