Thats a right! Its Blogday 2007! Blogs all over the world are celebrating by letting you know about 5 of their favorite or newly discovered haunts. I’m writing about a couple I’ve been visiting for a while and some I just found out about in the past couple of weeks. Some I like for the content (19incheswide) and some I like because of the design and layout (dearcrissy) and some I just like (laurigami, which is a ton of fun to say!).
Now, with out further ado…
Jeff Robbins - Jeffro is a friend from several years. Jeff.robbins.ws is as he puts it his “blo…websi…homepa…heap”. Jeffro talks about a myriad of subjects (transformers, computer, programming, life, his kid…) in a light and airy way that is fun to read. Plus the theme is fairly cool. He has some good coding tips on there (and a good tip about keeping fluffy out of the way). Pop in and tell him hi for me.
Whatever I Feel Like is Amy’s (not my Amy) blog. She writes about well, whatever she feels like. She has a dog named Grace, puts up with her job and loves to travel. Plus she’s fun to read…
Dear Crissy - the blog of a self described “27-year-old artist, photographer, and writer from Ohio”. I was originally turned on to Dear Crissy because of the theme. Lame huh? The layout and design of her site is outstanding and it all flows together rather well (dontcha think?) However, as I looked over her blog more, I discovered that she’s Fun to Read as well.
Laurigami is one I like simply because of the domain name. Its fun to say. Try it. Say it with me… Lau-ri-ga-mi. Isn’t that fun? The site sports a cool black and blue theme, which I happen to like (I prefer the black bg white text (foreground) as it seems easier to read) though she’s considering changing it. She generally posts some good shopping finds on her site (sales, items, prices) and her other sites are fun to read as well.
19 Inches Wide I assume (correctly I hope) that this referres to the size of his monitor… I picked up 19 Inches from a link from a friend. Its a tech related blog, where Mouseclone posts about tech issues he’s encountered and stuff. While there is a bit of Microsoft stuff on the site, he’s not opposed to Linux as an alternative. If you like more techie stuff, 19 inches wide is a good site to keep an eye on.
Hope my five recomendations for blog day have pointed you in a new direction. Let me know what you think of them.
Taking a cue from Gruntled and MouseClone (is he related to Danger Mouse?) I’ve started the Amie Street Wednesday Recomendation. Of course, I’m a day late, but I think you’ll like the rec.
Meghan Roberts is an acoustic wonderland for your ears. The lyrics are fun and the tunes good. Just listen to it, you’ll smile….
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted! View More Thursday Thirteen Participants
By now you’ve seen some of the photos Amy and I have taken on our vacations this summer (there’s one in a recent post that I took of a beach on Grand Cayman). Outside of boring slideshows with your friends and family what good are your summer vacay photos? Well, WeNeedAVacation.com is running a summer vacation photo contest where the winner can win $1000 towards a Cape Cod vacation rental, HOW COOL IS THAT?
All you have to do is visit The Contest Site and upload your entry before September 3rd and you’re entered to win! A plus to this is that for every photo submitted, they’re donating $5 to the Association to Preserve Cape Cod. So not only do you get a chance to win $1000 towards a vacation for your family, you also get to help Cape Cod out. Rockin!

Recently, a malicious software, known as Infostealer.Monstres, was used to gain unauthorized access to the Monster resume database. Hundreds of Monster users had their resumes access by someone with a criminal intent, who now has your name, address, email, and work history. What’s Monster doing to protect job seekers like you?

In keeping with last weeks “I’m going to write about a new wordpress plugin every week” statement, here’s another one. One I just came across today and one that has a ton of potential. The guys at younggogetter.com have developed and released the Douche Bag plugin.
Why do you need this plugin? Well, for starters, maybe you want to edit a comment someone left because of what they said, but you feel that would run against your ethics as a blogger (do we have ethics?)? Now you can mark their comment as one made by a douche bag. Of course, you don’t have to use the stock image that comes with the plugin, you could always change it to a pile of sh*t or a thumbs down, or maybe a clown kicking a child. Whatever you use though, you can rest assured that your readers will know you consider that comment/er a douche.

We like watching Dancing with the Stars. I can’t explain why, but recently out of all the reality shows (is it me or have survivor and American Idol outlived their time) its one of the most fun to watch (unless ABC brings back Celebrity Mole!!!). They announced today who the next series of stars would be and while Amy is pulling for Jennie Garth (90210), I can’t help but wonder if I’ll like any of them this time around. I mean, Wayne Newton? Come on, I really don’t want to see him in some of those silly outfits, do you?

On the recommendation of a friend I’m trying out Scribefire. Its a firefox extension that allows posting to a blog from the browser itself without having to log in. Its coo, but as this is the first post from it, we have a lot to try out before we render a final verdict.

Ever come across a website only to slap yourself on the forehead and go “If I only had known about this site sooner?” I have. Several times lately. Most recently when I came across an awesome guide to the Caribbean. Amy and I love the Caribbean. We honeymooned in Jamaica. We took a cruise earlier this summer in the Western Caribbean where we visited Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel (AWESOME SNORKELING in GC and Cozumel!) and we’d love to go back and spend more time on Grand Cayman.
The people were nice, the weather was nice, the snorkeling rocked and there was no sales tax! At all (its where we bought our Olympus stylus 770 for snorkeling). Anywho, if we had known about the Caribbean Guide, we could have planned our excursions a little better when we were off the ship. For instance, did you know that Dunns River Falls is really touristy and if you can find a good local taxi driver in Montego Bay then you can find the better places to go?
We didn’t. At least, not until we got to DRF. It was a little disappointing, however, with the Activities Guide you can plan your Caribbean vacay to the max making sure you havethe best time possible. This is one site I’ve bookmarked for next time.

Its disturbing that people know about this show and I don’t. I think whats more disturbing is that this show as allowed to be made and no one stopped it. Yo Gabba Gabba apparently comes on Nick Jr (Which means that G and E could be watching it with out me knowing!!) and its um, disturbing. Kind of like a drug induced trance or something.
As if that doesn’t scream pothead I don’t know what would. I think I’m disturbed by the talking carrots more than anything in that whole clip. Its all messed up. Of course, whats more messed up is that everyone needs their own dancey dance. Watch Frodo’s eyes as he does the Puppet Master!

I was driving back to work today from lunch (its nice living 10 minutes from the office…) and I passed one of the high schools as a group of seniors was leaving for the day on early dismissal. As I watched five or so cars pull out of the school parking lot I noticed that three of the cars had students in them who had already lit up cigarettes before they were even off the property. The violation of the law aside, its kind of alarming to see something like that. If they’re in such need of a nic fix, imagine the affect other drugs could have on them.
Luckily there’s Teen Rehab ECHO MALIBU. Nestled in the mountains of California and overlooking the pacific ocean, Echo Malibu is a good way to help a teen or family member break a habit in a way that works. Sessions typically start at 30 days and you can have a private or a semiprivate room depending on need. There are days, I think it’d be nice to check in just for a break from reality. In a society where teens are bombarded with photos and stories of negative roll models (Spears, Lohan, Hilton, Richie) its nice to know that there’s a place for them that will help break their addictions.

Alrighty now! I added a polling plugin to the fold and now I will occasionally toss a poll in to the mix. There will usually be one on the side bar and you can always access them via the pages at the top (see the link that says poll archive?). For the first one, i want to know what you think of the site. If you think it could be better, leave me a comment so I know what to improve….

VK over at Electric Venom has a really, really good post on Blogging for Pay that I think everyone should read. Yes, there are sponsored posts on this site. Yes, there are personal posts on this site as well. I write about what I like and I am not above taking money for a post if I like what I write about….
I had another title for this, based on a song, from a band whose name I won’t mention, “Let the MF Burn!” but I thought this was more appropriate. This is an image from space yo, of the fires in Greece. If you click on the image you can see red outlines of the areas where the fire is.
While it hurts to see something like this, its nice to know that it happens on this scale in places other than the US (Cali, South GA) and if there is any truth to the fact that this was arson, I hope they catch the bastid thats responsible for it and they make him/her fight the fire.
On the other hand, since it is a Greece fire, they could always try putting it out with baking soda.
Get it? Grease/Greece fire…. Oh and thanks NASA for the image.
When my grandfather passed away two years ago I inherited an atomic clock and I thought little about it. I hung it on the wall in what is destined to become my work room (when i finally get around to finishing it). From what I knew of it, it updates itself automagically and I don’t have to worry about it (it keeps awesome time). Well, I was doing some cleaning and I got a little curious about the clock so I did some research on it, which is how I found out its an Howard Millar Atomic Wall clock!. Its a really good quality clock (which is not surprising since it was my grandfathers…).
I had never heard of Howard Miller until I visited 1 800 4 clocks.com and came across the Howard Miller clocks pages (there are a ton of clocks there!). If I had a place for it, I’d love one of the Grandfather clocks as well, those things are amazing! Any ways, I did a little more digging and came across their blog as well and found This Post on the history of atomic clocks and how they work. Its mind boggling to think that my clock, tucked away in a room in the basement, reaches out and gets its time from a super accurate clock some where in the midwest. Thats what happens though and I couldn’t be happier (it keeps excellent time!).
I’m going to visit 1-800-4clocks.com soon, Amy and I are trying to find the perfect clock for the kitchen and we’re having issues with that…

If only life gave us all do overs. Ms. Teen SC was on the Today show today, talking about how stupid she looked and offering up a slew of excuses (first time on TV, nervous, etc…) on why she totally choked on that answer. They also gave her a chance to give a proper answer…
Aight, listen up! Blogday 2007 is coming up this Friday (August 31st). I’m going to blog about five (Yes, 5) blogs that I have recently discovered a taste for (some for content, some for design and some just because I like them!) and there’s nothing you can do about it! Well, except stop in and read about them. Visit them. Comment on them. Bookmark them. You get the idea right? RIGHT?
If you have a blog and you’d like me to talk about yours (luka…) let me know by leaving me a comment to your favorite post. It doesn’t have to be your blog even you can link me to a friends if you think I’d like it.

Occasionally in the jobs I’ve had (as well as the tinkering I do at home) I have to purchase parts. Replacement parts, new parts, spare parts and sometimes just parts. I recently came across a good source for cheap CPUs, Census PC. An online retailer, Census PC has it all (including a really, really cool selection of barebones Shuttle PC’s that would make a perfect homebrew TiVo system!). CPU’s, mother boards, ram, monitors, fans, water cooling supplies, anything your heart desires they have and they have decent prices too (of course, the pvr system I built using a shuttle slimline case was over $1100 when I was done).
You can select a barebones box and customize it how you want with the hardware you want and the OS (or no os) you want. They offer versions of Vista online, but you can always buy the box blank and load your own on it. They seem to be the perfect resource for DIYer’s or anyone looking for parts in general.
For those not in to building your own systems, they also offer a ton of Video Game System stuff (My favorite is the wii sports pack which transforms your wii mote in to a tennis racquet’s or golf club!). All around, Census PC seems to be a perfect place to shop for your computer and gaming needs!

Today is Monday. All. Day. Long. And you can tell. It got started off well at home with tensions a little higher than normal due to the G’s start of school today, the work in the kitchen and general morning crabbiness. The day was going ok until one of the production servers (the main production server) decided that it wanted to do nothing more than restart itself every 30 minutes or so.
The only thing that has changed on that server in the past week that might even remotely have affected it is the addition of the data migrator agent for Commvault. So I’ve disabled that for the time being and if it stays up, I’ll contact commvault to find out whats going on. Could be fun.
On top of that a tech was out today to work on the HP9500 (MFP) which has been having issues. We *think* its related to the feeder in tray 4 (big honkin feeder) so we replaced that. We hope that solves the issue, though it could be cheap paper as well.
Providing the MFP and the server run ok for a while, it might turn out to be a good day, I did get to go to lunch with a very excited Grace (who had a good day at school!!)

Apparently, the Miss Teen USA pageant was held this past weekend. Some of the contestants were undoubtedly attractive but they were a few sandwhiches short of a picnic. Like Miss Teen South Carolina for instance…
If you want to read what she said (it hurts just as much to read it as it does to listen to it..):
“I personally believe the U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh…people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and…I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our…
The question she was trying to answer:
Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?
Now, in and of itself, that statistic is appalling. EVERY American should be able to locate the US on a map. After all, it does have a somewhat distinct shape. The bigger problem is her answer. She was most likely coached to work Iraq AND South Africa in her answer and she really just should have admitted that she was one of those who couldn’t find the US on a map… I just hope she doesn’t become a school teacher.
I work for a printing company and one of the things the sales team is always working on is finding new leads. At the moment there is not a crm software (Customer Relationship Management) product in place, however it might not be a bad idea. The CRM software allows the sales force to track leads and who’s following them as well as make notes regarding accounts the company would like.
AIMPromote CRM is looking to change the way the industry works and it looks like they may be doing just that! They provide a robust solution for CRM that allows for tracking, customization, multiple users (and user levels!) and a ton of other features. In lead management, AIMPromote is quickly becoming a leader. The pricing is a little hard to decipher, but they are actually one of the most affordable and cost effictive solutions out there.
Their target audience is companies who’s focus is on finding and selling leads (lead generation) to other companies, however this software would benefit any sales force out there today. I think the major plus is the ability to track leads and monitor how profitable they are. AIMPromote could end up opening doors to opportunities that your sales force would not have otherwise had.
If your organization is looking for a way to maximize its lead potential, I’d suggest that you give AIMPromote a good look.
Hell yea baby! I wanted to change my permalinks in wordpress from index.php/archive/postid to /date/posttitle. The problem was that if I just changed it flat out, I’d loose any backlinks (linked to on other sites, forums and wherever) but then I came across Permalink-Redirect. A kick ass wordpress plugin that allows you to input your old permalink structure and it will automagically (since rewrite have always boggled my mind) redirect your visitors to the correct location.
Its a life saver for me. w00t!
Oh, yea, at least once a week I’m going to be featuring a different plugin (some I use here, some I don’t) for wordpress, so stop in and check them out, because there sure are a ton of them!

Not that I watched it, but Anchorwoman (fox’s new reality show) was pulled after one episode. Guess not too many people wanted to watch as a model went from the runway to the news desk… apparently, it had one of the lowest ratings ever. EVER.
There’s a new family movie coming out soon that has a positive message for children of all ages and if you like dolphins or beaches or dolphins at beaches, then Eye of the Dolphin is probably a good fit for you. I already know that I’m going to have to go see this with at least two of the women in the household (both Amy and Grace love dolphins) and I’m not sure I’ll mind.
The story is about a 15 year old girl who’s kicked out of her school so she has to go live with her father who happens to be a dolphin researcher. She befriends a lone dolphin and they help each other cope and grow up. Like I said, its got a decent story. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer:
It stars Carly Schroeder, who starred in this summer’s soccer hit “Gracie” and opens on August 24th (HEY! Thats today!!). Eye of the Dolphin has already received several awards including best drama and best actress at some of the smaller independent film festivals this year and could garner several nominations at the Oscars. At the very least, its worth it to try and WIN FREE TICKETS before August 26th, don’tcha think??
