It appears that as we get closer to November 4th, people (by people I mean the WSJ) all across the country are beginning to look closer at Obama’s proposed “tax cuts” and other tenants of his campaign. One of the most startling things people are finding is that while he promises to cut taxes on 95% of families (40% of which do not pay taxes) he’s “proposing one of the largest tax increases ever on the other 5%”. Something hardly anyone was talking about a week ago.
Now MSM (main stream media) and Others are finally taking note. So yes, while he would “cut” taxes, the truth is that just like other democrats before him who promised lower taxes, he’s actually raising them. In fact, according to the WSJ article:
Some families with an income of $40,000 could lose up to 40 cents in vanishing credits for every additional dollar earned from working overtime or taking a new job. As public policy, this is contradictory. The tax credits are sold in the name of “making work pay,” but in practice they can be a disincentive to working harder, especially if you’re a lower-income couple getting raises of $1,000 or $2,000 a year.
Thats something you won’t hear any of the talking heads on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN or any other MSM outlet mention or ask him about. Its only a wonder why we haven’t heard that from the McCain Camp yet.
So, I’m going to begin posting my favorite online videos as they come up, mostly because this way, I’ll know where they are… but also because you might enjoy them.

So in keeping with some of the most addicting online games around, I’ve stumbled across another one thanks to the folks at Techcrunch.
Desktop Tower Defense is incredibly addictive and I can’t get past the 30’s (level wise) on the medium mode… you should check it out and post your scores to the linuxtracker.org group.

Yes, today is tax day. Due to the 15th falling on a weekend this year, they’ve given us until today to file…. and I did, last friday. We’re actually getting some back this year, but only because of the interest we’ve paid on our house….
If you haven’t heard about it, you should pop on over to fairtax.org and learn about the best possible option out there for getting rid of the income tax.
Oh, and make sure your taxes are postmarked by midnight…

So when I had ‘rented’ (yes, rented, I don’t own the box this site sits on, I mearly lease it…) this server I ran apt-get upgrade to take care of updating several items on the server and I could have sworn that I masked out the kernel packages. Apparently, i didn’t and apt removed the kernel images and stuff needed to boot. Yar. Not good.
As would happen, I had to reboot and the box would not come back up. My wonderful host looked at it and told me what was wrong, offered to copy my data to a slave drive and reinstall the system from scratch. You would have thought that since this server was up for less than a month, this would be a freebie, but no, they wanted me to pony up $69 for this wonderful service. Mind you, they couldn’t get a kernel on there to get the system booted again to what it once was.
Me, being remarkably resourceful, and knowing a thing or two about admining a debian install (three years as tech support for a web hosting company I figured I could do what they couldn’t, so I had them boot it with a live cd and give me an ip address I could access the box from.
So armed with the ip address, the root password they created and knowledge of google and apt-get I logged on to the box on Saturday morning and ran a simple command:
apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.18-i386
and with in less than ten minutes the kernel had been replaced and I was ready for them to reboot the box minus the cdrom.
Mind you, it must have worked because you’re reading this today… and I still have my $69.

So I don’t listen to Don Imus or Howard Stern, or really any of the AM Shock Jocks (out side of Neal Boortz but I really couldn’t help but hear about the “controversy” that has been born out of the things he said on his show last week or so about a women’s basketball team. In reality, what he said isn’t anything that isn’t heard coming out of the mouth of any young person (white or black) or rapper these days anyways. The main difference in what Imus said and what a rapper says is that Imus is white.
There has been a double standard for a while in our culture these days that is born out of the political correctness movement that makes it ok to say certain things if you’re a certain race or creed, but if you’re not then watch out! The problem that exists is that its ok to talk about others (even friends) in a way like that anyways. I was pointed to a post by Earl Ofari Hutchinson (yes, its on huffingtonpost, a decidedly liberal site) where he calls out the same things that if its not ok for Imus to talk that way, then it shouldn’t be ok for anyone to talk that way. You should Read it!

DoG needs someone of rank, and the Colonel is as rank as it gets.
If the owner (you know who you are) would email a passwd for ColonelPanik This site would heat up in
a flash, maybe even in a JAVA.
Re: Your post about data loss… I feel for you, it hurts.
My wife has two lappies and they are each others backup.
I was at a dinner the other night talking with a MD who just lost EVERYTHING, personal and professional!
Now the good Doc has a RAID and he claims there is a BIOS setting that makes one a auto backup drive.
I need to learn more about this.

Where has the past year gone? Emma is turning one tomorrow. TOMORROW!! At 5:20 or there about in the morning… and she’s getting bigger every day!
The past year has been challenging with two children, one out of diapers and some what self sufficient, and the other requiring constant attention… I can’t wait until they’re both old enough to get their own cereal in the morning so I can sleep in….
